Two Photographs by Chris Luis
Photography provides an important outlet for me to share and expand my experience, knowing that any given image may evoke a certain emotion in me, while conveying an entirely different feeling in another viewer. A photograph tells a visual story, and I believe that storytelling, in all its forms, is the best and oldest way to preserve inherited wisdom and to gain new perspectives. By sharing stories, we encourage understanding and empathy—important qualities for our communities and in our own lives as we face turbulent times.

The beauty and perspective of the natural world is the balm I seek for calmness and comfort. Sometimes solitude—with no pressure to pretend, defend or explain—provides the space I need to re-center and find inner grace. This photo was taken on Portsmouth Island, the Outer Banks, NC.

The mysterious path ahead suggests that everything around you could change. You might notice something new or make an unplanned loop and encounter your past, A sudden fork could propel you to take an utterly new direction. For me, the unknown road sparks hope. This photo was taken near Cedar Run, PA.
